The learning analytics option is probably helpful to some programs, but in my program there is mostly research and writing papers so simply seeing what others have accessed the most isn't really beneficial. Sometimes we don't even realize we have a question until someone else asks it. I wish the discussion boards were split into smaller groups. | |||

The professor is approachable and passionate about the subject matter which makes a big difference. She also offers course materials in a variety of formats which keeps the course interesting. The moderated discussions get very big and hard to follow because there gets to be so many replies to scroll through. A way to click on a link for responses not read would be helpful. I think Canvas could make some improvements in how these are structured. | ||||

I found last semester, and unfortunately, it continues to this semester, that there are too many options for how groups collaborate and the method depends on who reaches out first. I feel like we have spent more time conversing about HOW to meet and collaborate than actually collaborating. I think groups can work, but I think there needs to be direction on specifically how the groups meet. Example: Meet by Zoom by xxx. Use the Canvas discussion board for collaboration. Or Google Doc. Or when2meet to decide Zoom times. It has just been challenging. In the three different groups I have for these three classes, we have used a total of 13 different apps or communication methods, and I can no longer keep straight where I meet, when, and for whom. | ||||||

Module homepages do not clearly present a general outline of the information making it difficult to do an overall scan of the material before diving in deeper. The videos hosted on Univ Michigan are usually choppy and don't load well. Faculty Presence Comments
Student: 3As mentioned before, I wish there were open office hours or some other way to engage with the professor without needing to schedule a 1:1 meeting.

Student: 16The course is just a bit confusing. Information is kind of everywhere and is not organized or laid out in a user friendly way. Dr. Schoville is extremely nice, however I would prefer more organization. I find myself often having to dig through information to find clear instructions for assignments. A calendar that clearly lays out due dates would be beneficial as there have been inconsistencies with deadlines and expectations for the course.
Student: 18It is difficult to organize the information within modules because there are so many sub-modules. Module homepages do not clearly present a general outline of the information making it difficult to do an overall scan of the material before diving in deeper. The videos hosted on Univ Michigan are usually choppy and don't load well. If you pause it you lose your place in the video.
Student: 23I feel as if the Professor’s approach has been very hands off. A lot of the responsibilities for interaction and learning fall on the student which is to be expected to some degree in a graduate level program but I believe more involvement in real time would have been nice.
Student: 24there seems to be a delay in getting grades and comments from our first major assignment, or even any updates / announcements if they have been graded, read, etc.

Student: 20Using third party products that are free means that we have to rely on resources other than our instructors. I don't expect them to be available in that way, but it does present a challenge.

Student: 1It would be SO helpful to be able to check off modules and their sections as I am going through the course. The learning analytics option is probably helpful to some programs, but in my program there is mostly research and writing papers so simply seeing what others have accessed the most isn't really beneficial. It is hard to remember which parts of the module I have or haven't accessed.
Student: 2More consistency across courses on how modules/weeks are labeled.
Student: 4I don't have one just one thing to do with technology that would enhance my success. It has been quite a while since I was a student in undergrad and many things have changed. I'm so happy with the advancements that technology has made. Without them, I would not be pursuing a MSN from Michigan while living near Chicago. I think that the program is wonderful so far. I have truly enjoyed both of my classes and the instructors are wonderful.

Student: 3The moderated discussions are difficult in the sense that it gets VERY chaotic with 40+ people all trying to respond 4+ times (including initial post and responses) and I feel that it's difficult to get anything out of the conversation. I wish the discussion boards were split into smaller groups.
Student: 4Dr. Schoville has been wonderful and I have enjoyed her class. Teaching virtually cannot be easy so I would like to thank her and all of her staff for everything they do to make this possible.

Student: 8The course and materials within Canvas are structured such that they are easy to find which is really helpful. The professor is approachable and passionate about the subject matter which makes a big difference. She also offers course materials in a variety of formats which keeps the course interesting. The moderated discussions get very big and hard to follow because there gets to be so many replies to scroll through. A way to click on a link for responses not read would be helpful. I think Canvas could make some improvements in how these are structured.

Student: 10Group projects are very difficult to collaborate on remotely. I found last semester, and unfortunately, it continues to this semester, that there are too many options for how groups collaborate and the method depends on who reaches out first. I feel like we have spent more time conversing about HOW to meet and collaborate than actually collaborating. I think groups can work, but I think there needs to be direction on specifically how the groups meet. Example: Meet by Zoom by xxx. Use the Canvas discussion board for collaboration. Or Google Doc. Or when2meet to decide Zoom times. It has just been challenging. In the three different groups I have for these three classes, we have used a total of 13 different apps or communication methods, and I can no longer keep straight where I meet, when, and for whom.
